Many people know me as a bridal hair and makeup artist, but one of the most rewarding parts of my career has been teaching makeup classes.
I started offering one-on-one makeup lessons around 10 years ago, and it all began with one simple question from one of my brides.
A few months after her wedding, she contacted me and asked if I could teach her how to create a simple everyday makeup look that she could confidently do herself.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would be a good teacher. Teaching had never crossed my mind before, and I felt a little nervous about it. But I said yes, and I’m so glad I did.
I still remember how much fun we had during that first lesson. It was relaxed, enjoyable, and filled with plenty of laughs. More importantly, she left feeling confident and excited to practice what she had learned.
A few weeks later, she sent me photos and updates showing how much her makeup skills had improved. She told me she felt more confident, happier, and no longer intimidated by makeup.
As a teacher, there is no better feeling than seeing someone gain confidence through something you’ve taught them.
From that moment on, I began offering more makeup lessons to my brides and clients. Over time, those lessons expanded into group makeup classes as well.
Some clients gather three or four friends together in the comfort of their own home and invite me to run a private group makeup class. Others have organised lessons as part of a girls’ day in, birthday celebration, or pre-wedding event.
One of my favourite memories was being invited to host a makeup class during a bride’s hens party before the group headed out for the evening. It was such a fun and unique way to celebrate, and everyone had an amazing time.
What Happens During a Makeup Class?
My makeup classes are designed to be relaxed, practical, and personalised.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or simply looking to improve your current routine, I tailor the lesson to your skill level and goals.
During the session, I teach:
- Everyday makeup application
- Soft glam techniques
- Foundation matching
- Contouring and highlighting
- Eye makeup application
- Skincare preparation
- Product recommendations
- Makeup brushes and tools
I encourage clients to bring their own makeup bags so I can show them how to get the most out of the products they already own.
Many people are surprised to learn they already have great products sitting unused in their collection. Sometimes a few simple techniques can completely transform the way they use their makeup.
I also provide professional recommendations and introduce clients to products from my own kit so they can explore additional options if needed.
A Relaxed and Fun Experience
My makeup classes typically run for around two to three hours.
There is no rushing, no pressure, and no strict classroom environment.
We take our time, ask questions, experiment with different techniques, and most importantly, have fun.
Many sessions include coffee, bubbles, snacks, and plenty of laughter along the way.
My goal is for every client to leave feeling more confident, empowered, and excited about doing their own makeup.
